Fibromyalgia
What are the symptoms?
Pain is the most prominent symptom of Fibromyalgia. It usually affects the entire body, although it may start in one area, such as the neck and shoulders, and spread to other areas over a period of time. Fibromyalgia is a form of generalized muscular pain and fatigue. The name, Fibromyalgia, means pain in the muscles and the fibrous connective tissues (the ligaments and tendons).
You (or someone you know) may be experiencing moderate or severe fatigue with a lack of energy, decreased exercise endurance, or the kind of exhaustion that results from the flu or lack of sleep.
Sometimes the fatigue is extreme and more of a problem than the pain. “Brain Fog” is a very common complaint…the lack of ability to concentrate. Headaches, especially tension and migraine headaches, are noted in Fibromyalgia. Abdominal pain, bloating, alternating constipation, and bladder spasms are also common ailments. Your skin can be sensitive to touch, and rainy weather can cause more pain.
Have you suffered for a few months, a few years, or too many years to mention? Some may suffer only minor symptoms, while others (perhaps you or a loved one) feel the debilitating effects of Fibromyalgia and are kept from participating in their lives, making even simple daily activities almost impossible.
What causes Fibromyalgia?
There is no real known cause for this dreaded condition. I can tell you from clinical experience that the onset is very typically associated with a time in life of great stress. Many note the symptoms beginning following a divorce, death in the family, or some other physical or mental crisis. This tremendous stress causes the brain to “overload” and begin to fire too much. The brain then “sets” in this wrong pattern. The brain is then in a constant “overreaction” mode, and, hence, the wide variety of symptoms.
What is the answer?
Throughout my years in practice I have tried the full range of therapies and treatments available to me, but without consistent results. I knew there had to be more, a method of treatment that could help them (and you!). I began searching to find the answer… and then… I found it. The answer to helping most Fibromyalgia symptoms: Brain Based Therapy!
I found out about this breakthrough therapy from my colleague, Dr. Michael Johnson, author of the alternative medicine best seller “What Do You Do When the Medications Don’t Work – A Non-Drug Treatment of Dizziness, Migraine Headaches, Fibromyalgia, and Other Chronic Conditions”. After talking with Dr. Johnson and studying his breakthrough techniques we have finally been able to help people with Fibromyalgia and many other chronic symptoms.
Current medical research tells us that Fibromyalgia is a neurological problem…not a muscle/joint problem! This is a functional neurological approach to Fibromyalgia. The pain and other symptoms are a result of areas of the brain over-firing and creating a vicious cycle of pain and symptoms. Typical medical treatment only targets the symptoms. This approach targets the source. We direct treatment to the area of the brain that perceives the pain. There are areas of the brain that excite the brain and areas that calm it down. We focus on the areas that calm it down. As the brain is retrained to fire in its proper way, the Fibromyalgia symptoms start to melt away. The true cause is treated and the body can then heal.
What is the treatment like?
I can tell you from personal experience and from watching patients and staff, the treatments do not hurt and are actually enjoyable. There are no drugs or surgery involved. No needles or hard spinal manipulations involved either. There are no known side-effects.
Treatments can include eye exercises, cold laser therapy, vibration, olfactory stimulation, listening to music in one ear, and/or oxygen. There are a wide variety of different therapies used as each individual case needs. These techniques, coupled with a full neurological and nutritional workup, have enabled us to help most of our patients get rid of their chronic symptoms, no matter how long they have been experiencing them. It is so gratifying to see them get their lives back!
How long will it take?
Treatment can take from 6 to 12 weeks depending on the severity of your condition. You will usually start to feel improvement in the first two weeks. If you are not seeing changes early in care, you will be reevaluated for an alternate approach or released from care. There is no need to continue care if changes are not occurring. The idea of this care is to get you better and have your body heal. There is usually no need for continuous care after you complete the treatment.

| One patient tells her story – “I had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia by a medical doctor before seeing Dr. Moleski. My life was unmanageable! I could not make plans because I was unable to determine if I would sleep the night before. I could not function very well without sleep. I could sleep very little. I was constantly tired! My legs ached at rest. My left shoulder and low back pain was also very severe. I experienced periods of depression and found concentration very difficult. I was certain that I had IBS. I was willing to go to any length for relief! I tried using a heating pad and hot baths, which only temporarily relieved the pain. I also took Ibuprofen and Excedrin Back and Body. I could only sleep approximately 4 hours. If I was not too tired, I would walk the dog. The whole walk, I was in constant pain. Once I met Dr. Moleski and heard about the treatment plan, I was very skeptical. However, I wanted to follow the plan. I wanted to be pain free! After several treatments, I am pain free! Since I am following the diet ordered by Dr. Moleski, my digestive system has responded very well. I am now able to exercise with no pain at all! I no longer take Advil during the day! I can now sleep 7 hours a night! I awake with as much energy as I had 50 years ago! It is very nice to be able to make plans and keep them without concern if I will feel like participating. I can now think clearly! I would tell anyone who is contemplating this treatment that there is relief available. Trust in Dr. Moleski and follow the treatment plan. We are very lucky to live in an area where there is a doctor trained in this condition! I highly recommend Dr. Moleski and his staff!”
